German Version of the University of Jyvaskyla Active Aging Scale (UJACAS-G)
The University of Jyvaskyla Active Aging Scale (UJACAS) is an innovative questionnaire that measures active aging by assessing the will, ability, opportunity, and frequency of participation in various activities. The questionnaire is based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) and covers 17 different activities such as memory exercises, physical activity, social interactions, and crafting. The UJACAS captures individual experiences and perceptions, allowing for a nuanced evaluation of active aging. The results can help analyze individual and social factors that influence active aging. The questionnaire can be completed online, in interviews, or on paper, making it suitable for both studies and the evaluation of interventions.
Originally developed in Finnish, the UJACAS has already been translated into English, Turkish and Swedish. The Finnish and English versions are available through the website of the Gerontology Research Center (Jyväskylä/Tampere). Detailed instructions on how to use the scale can also be found there.
In a cooperation project with the original developers of the scale at the University of Jyväskylä, we translated the Finnish version into German and tested its reliability. Now, the German version of the UJACAS (UJACAS-G) is also available. It was published as “Supplementary Material” to the publication mentioned below.
